EC Vice-President Dr. Kristalina Georgieva’s visit to Fraunhofer IZM on March 6 was all about bringing research into dialogue with policy.

Together with Institute Director Prof. Klaus-Dieter Lang she discussed current topics in research and funding policy, including the impact of Horizon 2020. Dr. Georgieva also toured the innovation center AdaptSys, which was partly set-up using EU funding. The center, which fuses microelectronics and high-end products, has produced a number of innovative technologies, including an extremely miniaturized power inverter for photovoltaic units, flexible electronics for textile displays and a highly efficient microcamera as part of a motion sensor.
