We are delighted to welcome Eric Fribourg-Blanc, Senior Program Officer at the Chips Joint Undertaking, to Fraunhofer IZM-ASSID on March 3, 2026. The program focused on an exchange of ideas on current projects and future topics of cooperation for establishing the APECS pilot line, as well as a tour of the clean room for cutting-edge 300-mm research. Fribourg-Blanc was given a tour of the cleanroom areas by site manager Dr. Manuela Junghähnel and discussed, among other things, developments in the field of microsystems technology, to which the researchers at Fraunhofer IZM-ASSID are making significant contributions. The visit strengthens cooperation in the areas of process technology, quality management, and industrial applications, as well as the joint use of resources and methods to accelerate innovation processes. We would like to express our gratitude for the intensive technical exchange and look forward to further joint steps in the research and development landscape.

Funding

APECS is co-funded by the Chips Joint Undertaking and the national funding agencies of Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal, and Spain as part of the “Chips for Europe” initiative.

Thanks to extensive funding from the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, and the federal states of Saxony, Berlin, Bavaria, Schleswig-Holstein, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony-Anhalt, the R&D infrastructure within the APECS pilot line can be further expanded in the coming years.
