The aim of the SmartSenior research project is to develop technologically innovative services that enable older people to continue living in their own homes longer, and stay independent longer. The project provides intelligent living environments that help older people protect their quality of life, in terms of health, social interaction and financial position. The project, which is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), brings together 28 partners, including large corporations, research institutes and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

Activities in the Project

In the project SmartSenior, Fraunhofer IZM addresses the market of senior-focused products and services with technologies for system integration and with methods for system evaluation. Within the sub project 6 (TP6), Fraunhofer IZM contributes to the conception and realization of a system for the collection and management of vital signs. This is done in close cooperation with Siemens. Within subproject 9 (TP9), IZM works on multi-level modeling for the estimation of power and material in put for e.g. the patients’ sensor systems or the data processing center. IZM also works on a simplified eco balancing of the demonstrator “wristband”.
