Dr. Eckart Hoene, Head of the Fraunhofer IZM research group „EMC in Power Electronic Systems” has been appointed Honorary Professor by Denmark’s Aalborg University. The Faculty of Engineering and Science awarded Dr. Hoene the title in recognition of his outstanding achievements in his research area.  Dr. Hoene will be holding lectures on power electronic packaging, design and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) starting winter semester 2014/15.

Eckart Hoene, who has been working at Fraunhofer IZM for over 17 years, specializes in the development and industrial implementation of design techniques for the electromagnetic optimization of power electronics. For example, the calculation methods developed by Hoene and his team in simulations and experiments can be used to predict how components can be placed to reduce electromagnetic interaction as much as possible. Most of his customers are electric vehicle manufacturers, but the researcher also develops EMC-optimized designs for solar and wind power plants and industrial converters.
