SWARMY – Sensors for IIoT applications

In the age of Industry 4.0, decentralized systems consisting of various wireless sensors are indispensable. To meet the challenges of individual applications, Fraunhofer IZM has developed the IIoT sensor-actuator platform SWARMY. This self-sufficient and energy-efficient platform enables data to be collected, processed in real time, and transmitted wirelessly.

SWARMY supports the condition monitoring of industrial plants and processes and enables predictive maintenance, minimizing downtime and increasing efficiency. The sensor platform is ideal for retrofitting industrial plants to upgrade existing systems with modern sensor solutions and thus optimize their performance.

Measurement data and possible applications

  • Light intensity measurement: detection of changes in light or determination of presence.
  • Motion and position measurement: detection of any movement or orientation in a room.
  • Indoor air quality: monitoring of air quality and air pressure.
  • Distance measurement: determination of the distance between different objects.
  • Gesture and object recognition: identification of gestures and objects using lidar technology.
  • Height measurement: barometric determination of height above sea level.
  • Environmental measurement: detection of air humidity and ambient temperature.
  • Acoustic measurements: performing sound measurements with microphone arrays.
  • Motor control: use of two stepper motors or four DC motors.
