The Need for Standardization of Environmental Assessments in the Electronics Industry (PCR)
This session explains why and in which context actionable product carbon footprint data is needed and introduces a family of international initiatives to further harmonize the calculation of product carbon footprints among semiconductor manufacturers, by system integrators and by digital service providers.
To use environmental data in companies and along the supply chain calculations must be harmonized to arrive at actionable and eventually comparable data. For the current environmental priority of climate relevant emissions, the standards for carbon footprint calculation exist, but are not specific enough to provide sufficient guidance for decarbonization measures.
The key word for harmonization is PCR or »Product Category Rules«.
Fraunhofer IZM is currently moderating and advancing worldwide activities to improve and harmonize carbon footprint calculations for electronics, with involvement from major players around the world.
This seminar covers the following topics:
- motivation of major high-tech companies for actionable PCF data: towards net-zero with reliable data
- overview of existing and evolving PCF standards and guidelines: from Catena-X to OCP specifications
- selected methodological challenges: cut-off rules, allocation, data quality and beyond
- component level guidance: the example of printed circuit boards
- how to get involved
Join the deep dive
With this expert session, we will bring you up to speed with the rapidly evolving landscape of PCF assessments in the electronics value chain and show how you can help to shape the future PCF landscape in a way that respects your needs and interests.
