Fraunhofer IZM and TU Berlin Present Current Research at the E-Textiles Conference 2026

Sustainable e-textiles, smart protective clothing, and new standards for connected textile systems: At the E-Textiles Conference 2026, Fraunhofer IZM and TU Berlin will present the latest research findings for the next generation of electronic textiles.

At the joint booth, the partners will provide insights into the TU Berlin’s SoftIE EU project as well as current research on medical e-textiles, textile conductive tracks and electrodes, bonding technologies, and liquid-metal e-textiles. The focus is on solutions for reliable connections, scalable manufacturing processes, and sustainable product concepts.

In addition, the team will present new approaches for standardized, repairable, and recyclable e-textiles in the lecture »Horizon Europe – SoftIE – Materials for Sustainable Soft Technologies of Interconnected E-Textiles«. Among other things, the project is developing a universal, USB-compatible e-textile connector and contributing to the standardization of electronic textiles.

Research Highlight: Smart Protective and Functional Clothing

Fraunhofer IZM will also present its work on the EDF-funded project ARMETISS (smARt Multifunction tExtiles for integrated Soldier Systems). The project is developing smart textile systems with integrated functions for energy and data transmission, physiological monitoring, and thermoregulation. The goal is to create high-performance yet flexible textile-electronic systems for applications with high demands on functionality, robustness, and comfort.
