The first meet-up of the European research project AGRARSENSE brought together the different contributors at Fraunhofer IZM in Berlin to discuss the work packages for the first project phase and to agree on the first set of goals for the cooperation. AGRARSENSE continues the project work pursued by Fraunhofer IZM in the key field of agricultural technologies.

The AGRARSENSE initiative is coordinated by Sweden’s KOMATSU and the Fraunhofer Society in the form of the EMFT and IZM institutes. It revolves around innovative microelectronics, photonics, and electronic packaging for applications in agriculture and forestry. The project work also covers the necessary IT and communications technology and the data processing capabilities to validate the innovative technologies’ fitness for a range of realistic use cases.

The project is promoting the digital innovations that are urgently needed for more sustainable agriculture and forestry work. It builds on aspects of the Industry 4.0 concept and smart farming to achieve greater sustainability with a more focused and purposeful use of energy and other resources, all in the pursuit of healthier and more sustainable processes in the field.

The project is being supported as part of the EU Joint Undertakings Key Digital Technologies (JU-KDT) and includes no fewer than 52 partners from 15 EU states for its ambitious undertaking.
