On 25 May 2016 the director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nanosystems ENAS, Prof. Dr. Dr. Prof. h. c. mult. Thomas Gessner, suddenly and unexpectedly died at the age of 61 years.

Professor Gessner was at the same time full professor of the chair of Microtechnology of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and director of the Center for Microtechnologies of the Technische Universität Chemnitz. For 10 years he headed a department at Fraunhofer IZM and strongly influenced the institute’s strategic development.

With Professor Gessner we not only lose a dedicated and visionary scientist, but also a trusted colleague and friend.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
