Dr. Ralph Schacht appointed Vice-President of Research at the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences

The Land Brandenburg has appointed senior IZM researcher Professor Dr. Schacht as Vice-President of Research at the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences.
The university’s curriculum combines life science and technical majors with degrees in business administration, social services and music pedagogy. This weaving of traditional courses with new ideas and laboratories is an attractive draw card for international and German students.
Professor Schacht was born in Dortmund in 1962. He studied and completed his PhD in electronics at the Technische Universität Berlin. He joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM in 2001, and his role there has included establishing and heading the Thermal Electrical Testing Lab.
Professor Schacht was appointed to the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences’ Department of Computer Science/Electronics/Mechanical Engineering in September 2006 as Professor of Electronic Circuit Technology. His research focus is the development of reliable heat dissipation strategies for electronic components, assemblies and systems. He also continues to lead Fraunhofer IZM’s Thermal Electrical Testing Lab.
Professor Schacht is an active participant in the university’s self-management and has been head of the department board since June 2009. In his role as Vice-President of Research, Professor Schacht intends to establish an interdisciplinary research project titled “Quality of Life in Old Age” at the university. He is also an advocate of independent research and teaching at the university.
