Process-oriented material analytics and process simulation

Development of technologies at Fraunhofer IZM is closely connected with process-oriented analytics of used materials. The investigations are focused on measurement of material characteristics under process conditions as well as systematic studies of aging processes of polymers under harsh environmental conditions. The following analytical methods are available:

  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
cure kinetics of polymeric materials, measurement of melting temperature, heat capacity, glass transition temperature
  • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
degradation behavior of polymeric materials, fraction of inorganic fillers, content of volatiles or humidity
  • Vapour Sorption Analysis (SA)
Humidity sorption behavior of polymeric materials, fillers and composites
  • Rheometry
flow curves of uncured polymers, viscosity change during storage, processing and cure, effect of filler particles on flow behavior, dynamic torsional analysis of solid materials
  • Dielectric Analysis (DEA)
relative permittivity er of polymeric materials, change of dielectric properties during cure and aging (heat, humidity, chemicals)
  • Contact Angle Measurement (CA)
characterization of neat and modified surfaces of substrates, evaluation of wetting behavior of adhesives
