In 2017, Fraunhofer IZM will be present at PCIM (= Power Conversion Intelligent Motion) Europe again. One of the world’s leading trade fair and conference for Power Electronics, Intelligent Motion, Renewable Energy and Energy Management takes place at fairground Nürnberg in May. Visitors can discover new products and services e.g., for customers from the fields of mechanical engineering, e-mobility or automotive electronics here.

For many years, the industry has made great strides forward in exploring and seizing the potential of silicon carbide and gallium nitride for fast-switching semiconductors: production techniques, electrical, thermal, and mechanical design, electromagnetic compatibility, and optimized activation are some of the crucial aspects in this area. The expo offers a vivid insight into the institute’s system development competences with a low-inductance embedded power module.

In the field of reliability research, the focus of IZM’s services lies on thermal analysis, simulation, and power cycling. The use of highly thermally conductive materials and connection technologies offers enormous potential for thermal optimization, as demonstrated with load cycle testing for power semiconductors.
One perennial favorite at the PCIM is the presentation of novel connection technologies for high-temperature applications. Ag sintering and the transient liquid phase soldering technology developed at the Fraunhofer IZM are two alternative technologies on show that offer high reliability at temperatures of up to 150°C.

We look forward to seeing you in Nürnberg!
