Design for and from recycling

Explorative workshop on state of the art practices and assessment tools for recycling strategies in consumer goods

In order to increase the share of plastic recyclates in consumer goods design is key! But what can currently be done, what should I pay attention to when designing with second life materials? In this workshop we will provide latest insights on the state of the art of plastics recycling technologies and best practices from product design and market aspects. We want to investigate together with you what information is needed during the different stages of product development and what other current challenges you face when intending to design for sustainable and recyclable solutions. Could design even influence the users to close the loops and circulate materials back in the system? Finally, we invite you to test our first draft of the “design for recyclability assessment tool” on a practical use case and give valuable feedback so that we can further develop it catering to the real needs of designers and engineers involved in the product design.

In the INCREACE project we develop circular product design guidelines & practical tools enabling designers to assess and improve their concepts and products. The assessment tool supports designers to determine the recyclability on concept and material level and receive guidance on designing for and from recycling. The workshop is part of a series to provide project findings and to co-create the tools and amend results from the joint efforts of the INCREACE project with insights from the field.
