Fundamental radar signal processing based on TI Radars

Radar is no longer just about space travel and satellites - modern radar technology is compact, affordable and ready for completely new applications, for example in the automotive industry. So it's the perfect time to get started!

Fraunhofer IZM offers an in-depth radar workshop with a practical introduction to radar signal processing and is supervised by real professionals in the field. It helps to accelerate the development phase and helps your engineers to become experts in this exciting field.

Three intensive days in which theory and practice alternate in a meaningful way.

Pre-work:

In the previous week to the workshop an online session will be organized for all attendees to cover the following topics: (~1hour)

Introduction to radar principles and applications including overview of the TI device that will be used
Workshop content and agenda.
Workshop logistics, where/how etc.

Time: One hour between 08:30 – 17:45.

We reserve the right to make changes to the schedule.

Day 1 - Radar and Hardware Basics

We start with an introduction to the radar platform of the (TI) ecosystem. You will get to know the IWR6843ISK board and the DCA1000EVM, work with the associated software and carry out initial measurements. Flashing example projects is also part of the course.

Day 2 - Radar Signal Processing and applications

On the following days, you will delve deeper into the signal processing of modern MIMO FMCW radars. You will work on practical tasks in teams of two, supported by two experienced trainers. A special highlight: measurements in the echo chamber, including moving scenarios with linear motors and a robot - for realistic data and exciting insights into complex applications.

This workshop does not cover:

High Level Processing: Point cloud clustering / grouping algorithms; Tracking algorithms;Higher level classification, animate/inanimate, and higher capabilities using ML

Hardware and system related topics: Antennas types and respective benefits: single patch vs multi-patch, patch vs other antennas, dense array vs spare arrays & substrate options: Rogers, FR4HR08
