Berlin /

For the 15th time the Girl’s Day took place at the Fraunhofer IZM. We could welcome eleven girls, who had the chance to get to know the Fraunhofer Group in general and the Fraunhofer IZM especially. After a short introduction to both, the new knowledge was tested in a little quiz. The mind full of this theory we switched to practice – the task ahead: To dismantle a mobile phone. This way the girls could name the sole parts and finally put the pieces together again. Parted into groups after that, our young guests could gain insight in different areas and try out their hands, p. e.

  • automated solder assembly of PCBs
  • embedding, grinding and analysing of electronic parts, cycle tests
  • Making of an electronic circuit, p. e. in form of an enlighted figure
  • Metallization of structured PCB material, polishing and microscopy at the transcept

The highlight of the afternoon was a guided tour trough the gray room  from where one can see the work in the different clean rooms. What an exciting day!
