The hot embossing press is a machine particularly designed for the replicating manufacturing process of MST applications. Thermoplastic polymer tapes or panels are processed. Structuring of the polymers is done under heat and pressure, thus the process may be carried out under vacuum as well as in an inert gas atmosphere. The formation is highly precise and structures with a diameter of 3 µm have been generated at IZM. The surface roughness depends solely on the tool. Surface roughness below Ra = 10 nm has been achieved.

Main applications are in micro optics and micro fluidics.
